A review of past studies examining whether people who participate in clinical research wish to know the results has found that most people do wish to be told, even if receiving the results might cause distress or anxiety. The review is published in this week's PLoS Medicine.

19/05/08  Avastin Improves Brain Cancer Survival

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Results from a mid-stage trial showed treatment with Genentech Inc's Avastin improved survival for patients with recurring brain cancer, the company said on Thursday.

The Phase II trial compared Avastin, also known as bevicizumab, combined with irinotecan chemotherapy, to Avastin alone in patients with relapsed glioblastoma multiforme (GBM), the most common and aggressive type of brain cancer.

WASHINGTON, May 7 -- Shire plc(LSE: SHP, Nasdaq: SHPGY), the global specialty biopharmaceutical company, presented today at a major scientific meeting findings from analyses of pivotal trial results of INTUNIV, a selective alpha-2A-agonist. This compound is an investigational once-daily medication, which is being evaluated for the treatment of the symptoms of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). The data demonstrated that INTUNIV showed significant efficacy in reducing ADHD symptoms for patients taking the medication when compared to patients taking placebo at all measured time points up to 24 hours postdose.
